Malton win by 131 runs

After an indifferent week for Malton and old Malton 2nds with Captain John foxton retiring, stand in skipper Andy tyres had a big job on his hands to get a performance from the lads, which they did in style by beating Rowntrees 1sts by 131 runs on a blistering day at Nestle Rowntrees

Malton won the toss and batted first which turn out to be a excellent decision, openers James Spencer and Lester parkin got off to a good start before Spencer was bowled by a ball which ripped his off stump out for 15, interim skipper Tyres came in at 3 but didn’t trouble the scorers too much and soon followed. Malton loss a third wicket of parkin (13) soon after but not before he was shook up by a bouncer that hit him in the eye, this then brought the man of the moment Shane Bonser to the crease and he a tony linsley set about re-building the Malton innings in style. With the score now on 129 Malton lost their fourth wicket and it was linsley (19), this brought in debutant Dan Harper in and gave the young lad a chance to easy in too 2nd team life with the now fluent Bonser at the other end. With Malton’s score moving along swiftly Shane Bonser soon brought up his first career century coming of only 67 balls, unfortunately he fell soon after playing a drive which was caught at long on for a brilliant 104. Simon Cass was the next batsman in with instruction to play some shots, Dan Harper’s innings soon came to an end after that following a mix up which resulted in him been run out for 19, a fine effort in debut, Adam Morley and John Hubury came and went quickly, before Stu Watmore and Simon Cass hit some late boundaries to move Malton total beyond the 250 mark finishing on 253/8 of 45 over’s, Cass finished on 30no and Watmore 16no.

After a well earned tea break Malton went out too field looking for some early wickets to press home there advantage, Rowntrees openers looked too hit some early boundaries to get there side of the a flyer and end looked to be having some luck after an dropped catch at slip, but Bonser who dropped the catch soon atoned by taking the next one of the bowling of Linsley (1-34 of 9). The next wicket too fall was in comical fashion as Watmore dropped a caught and bowled chance only too run out the batsman as they attempted a single. Malton soon had their third wicket with Watmore getting it by bowling the rowntrees batsman, skipper tyres then brought on Bonser who soon got the 4th and 5th wicket after some fine catching by Morley and keeper Hird. Rowntress then looked to put a halt to the innings and selt for a draw but the Malton bowlers didn’t allow this with Cass (1-17 of 9) and Parkin (1-16 of 6) both picking up a wicket apiece, Bonser and Watmore then were brought back into the attack to finish of the rowntress innings the they dewly obliged with Watmore (2-29 of 7) finishing of the innings with a ‘wasim watmore’ Yorker, but the star of the show was again Shane Bonser who finished with figures of 4 for 23 to go with his century to give Malton 30 points
