1ST XI CRUSH BEVERLEY
Beverley Town 2nd XI 138 All Out
Malton & Old Malton 1st XI 140 for 4
Malton win by 6 wickets.
On the warmest day of the summer so far, Danny Foxton won the toss and decided to bowl in the heat due to a hint of green in the wicket. His decision proved correct as Malton's bowlers restricted Beverley to a modest 138 for the loss of all 10 wickets. The game started well as the final ball of Mike Linsley first over caught the edge of the batsman's bat and wicketkeeper Ben Gill made no mistake. Youngster Oliver Gilbank making his seasonal debut then superbly bowled Beverley's number 3 with a stunning delivery. A further wicket apiece had Beverley struggling at 30 for 4. Beverley though countered for a while with Graham Taylor(43) and James Emery (33) but Danny Foxton and Mark Yates with two wickets apiece put the brakes back on Beverley. Mike Linsley returned to blast out the final two wickets to finish with 4 for 29.
Malton's reply also got off to a shaky start with Josh Greenley & Mike Linsley back in the clubhouse with only 8 runs on the board. Steve Linsley (74) and Steve Beal (31) though dug deep to see off some good new ball bowling before attacking the back up bowlers. The pair put on a 101 run partnership which was surprisingly dominated by Linsley before Beal was caught behind going for a trademark drive. With only 4 runs to get Linsley was unfortunately bowled when his mistimed drive cannoned off his pads and onto the stumps. Ben Gill & James Baxter were at the crease as Malton eased past target with 9 overs remaining.
